Elgin

Elgin’s Max Waite – Presented by Arvest Bank,

Max Waite is a senior at Elgin High School where he is a member of the varsity soccer team. The center back has played varsity soccer all four years of high school and this year Waite represented soccer in the homecoming court. For Waite, finding balance between soccer and school is a priority. “I can be the best of both versions of myself in school and soccer due to an excellent teaching and coaching staff. Being a student-athlete isn’t easy but with hard work and determination in school and sports I’ve excelled in both,” said Waite. The senior is a member of National Honor Society and one day hopes to pursue a degree at Oklahoma State University.

“The field I have chosen is project management. Being hands-on has always been my favorite way of learning. This field has many opportunities to start my professional career.  On the field, Waite has played the game of soccer since he was four years old. This season he has the opportunity to play varsity soccer with his younger brother. “It will be so exciting for us to be on the field at the same time and build that chemistry that we had when we were just kids. Making moments I will remember for the rest of my lifetime and cherishing every bit of it,” said Waite. Like many of his teammates, Waite has continued to improve his game and believes the team has the chemistry to do great things this season.

“The part of my game I have improved on the most is learning to use both feet. After consistently putting myself within uncomfortable territory with my left foot I saw steady improvement over the past four years. Forcing yourself outside of your normal comfort zone is the only way to get better at anything. This season I plan to take control of the defense and help ensure my teammates are in the right positions,” said Waite. “I enjoy that my teammates are like family on and off the field. Having that family-like bond is essential for team chemistry and getting better as a team.
