Cache High School junior Colten Rother is an excellent baseball player, but he’s a servant first. He’s involved in beta club, ambucs, national honor society, a youth group and M28 (a ministry to furnish clothes for people without homes). His girlfriend, Riley, invited him to serve M28. “You go and help hang clothes so the homeless can grab what they need and feed the homeless and have a mini church service at the end of it all,” Rother said.

His faith is integral to his experience. To him, God “means more than anything, even playing baseball.” That said, it isn’t easy maintaining his calendar. “It is kind of a time challenge, but I have a pretty solid schedule that I try to stick to every day so I can balance it all out,” Rother said. Rother considers hitting,
leadership and mental toughness to be his best talents on the baseball field.

“I believe these skills are necessary for my team’s success because every team needs a good leader as well as one that backs it up on the field and off the field,” Rother said. “I try to be a lead-byexample-kinda-guy, but I can also lead by talking my teammates up and getting onto them whenever they are messing around. His eighth grade year, Rother tore his meniscus pitching.

“The biggest difficulty was definitely the mental aspect,” Rother said. “I was always worried about getting hurt again and to overcome that, it just took time and a lot of reassurance that it would likely not happen again.” Rother considers his parents his biggest motivation during that era. “They are amazing, and our
relationship, it means a ton,” Rother said. “They have helped me through so many struggles and helped me improve so much over all these years. I can’t thank them enough.”
