Hammon’s Addison Walker – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Great Plains Bank

Addison Walker, a junior shortstop for the Hammon Lady Warriors, said when it comes to playing softball, it’s a family affair.

“I grew up watching my older brother and sister play sports, and decided I wanted to be as competitive as they were,” Walker said. “Watching my sister win a fast pitch state championship and then go on to play softball at Oklahoma State and UCO made me want to be the best player I could be. Not just for myself, but for my coaches and teammates. I would love for us to bring home the gold in fast pitch. Not only would I get to share that with my team, but also with my coach, Peyton Walker, who is the big sister I watched growing up.”

In keeping with the family theme, Walker said the best advice she’s gotten on being a good teammate came from her sister-turned-coach.

“She always told us that we always have people watching us,” she said. “Most important of those are the younger girls at our school. So I always try to carry myself in a positive manner and make the right choices, so they see me doing right and want to follow. I have a niece who is a fourth grader who also goes to school at Hammon. She plays sports and I want her to see that hard work and being a good teammate is very important.”

In her free time, Walker said she can usually be found hanging out with her friends and family. She said she also enjoys fishing with her dad and grandparents at their ponds.

“We’ve been playing together since we were young and we’re a tight bunch,” Walker added, talking about her softball team. “We only want to be better every day, and win that last game of the season. We are very focused on one goal right now, and that’s making it to the championship and bringing home that gold ball.”
