OFFENSE

Entering his fifth season leading the Weatherford Eagles, head coach Reagan Roof likes the makeup of his roster, even if there are some question marks entering this season. “We have good core of player returning but we will also have several holes to fill,” Roof said. Offensively, the Eagles will run a Spread Wing-T offense. Leading that heavy rushing attack are a pair of VYPE Top 100 running backs in Sam Hoffman (6-0, 195, Sr.) and Malachi Johnson (6-0, 195, Sr.). Hoffman, who will be a four-year starter at running back for the Eagles, ran for 1,044 yards and 12 touchdowns last year while Johnson ran for 814 yards and 11 TDs in 2020. Opening running lanes for those two guys will be key for Weatherford’s offense. Leading the way up front for the Eagles is Cole McCurdy (6-0, 260, Jr.) and Braylan Haworth (5-10, 290, Jr.). While the Spread Wing-T is a run-first attack, there are a pair of solid pass catchers who can make plays in the passing game. Brett Bozarth (5-11, 190, Sr.) will look to step into the WR1 role. He caught just two passes last year but will look to be the go-to receiver this year. Another option in the pass game is tight end, and Vype Top 100 player, Ryan Shields (6-2, 220, Sr.).

DEFENSE

Defensively, the Eagles run a 3-3 Stack defense that is all about getting their linebackers free to make plays. Weatherford is returning five starters from last year’s roster, including all three of their linebackers who put up great numbers a year ago. Leading the defense this year is VYPE Top 100 player Ryan Shields. He posted 134 tackles a year ago from his middle linebacker position. He will be joined at linebacker by Bryson Cook (6-1, 205, Sr.) and Sam Hoffman (6-0, 195, Sr.). Cook and Hoffman combined for 173 tackles and four interceptions last season. In the secondary, the Eagles return Brett Bozarth. He tallied 46 tackles and one interception from his free safety position in 2020. Joining Bozarth in the secondary is Malachi Johnson. The defensive line will be anchored by big defensive tackle Aiden Klepczyk (6-1, 340, Sr.). Joining Roof on the Weatherford coaching staff are Taylor Sossamon, Rob Renshaw, Cody Cantrell, Lantz Parks, Corey Miller, Preston Roof, and Blaine Perkins.
