MacArther Highlanders – 2021 Basketball Preview – Presented By Rusty England State Farm Agent

BOYS

Coach: Marco Gagliardi

20-21 Record: 23-3

Excitement for Highlander basketball may be at an all-time high under head coach Marco Gagliardi. The run of success MacArthur has experienced is fueling the team to continue pushing themselves to make the state tournament and compete for titles. “MacArthur is fresh off a state finals in 2021 and will be looking to make its fourth consecutive trip to the state tourney in 2022,” said coach Gagliardi. “The Highlanders have four returners from last year and a few new pieces that should contribute in a big way. Class 5A is loaded but the Highlanders have their eyes set on hosting a fourth consecutive regional tournament and making a return trip to the state playoffs.” Arzhonte “Man Man” Dallas (5-10, Sr.) hit to 1,000-point mark as a sophomore and holds four college offers. Dallas is a crucial piece of the puzzle for the Highlanders. Jamel Graves (6-7, Sr.) transferred from Eisenhower where he averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds last year. Graves will play forward where he is a tough matchup for most opponents.

Madden Padilla (5-8, So.) had a great freshman campaign and was able to see the court last season. His work ethic has him high on the depth chart. Montez Edwards (5-9, Sr.) is a three-year starter with a high motor and playmaking ability. Vaughn Pope (6-4, Sr.) will likely see an increased amount of playing time this year while Isaiah Gray (6-1, Sr.) missed the last two season, but returns for his final year. Gray is an elite athlete and someone who can make plays on both ends of the court. Other players to watch include Andre Robles (6-0, Sr.), Hudson Herring (6-0, Sr.), Cody Cabelka (6-1, Sr.), Javall Coleman (5-10, Fr.), Alton Thomas (5-9, Fr.), Colin Gabriel (6-0, Sr.), Anthony Smith (6-4, Jr.), Fontane Molett (6-2, Jr.), Tristan Klein (6-4, Jr.), and Braxton Klein (6-4, Fr.).
