Velma-Alma Comets 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Coaches Corner

Coach: RANDY NORTON
10-4

OFFENSE

The Comets ended last season in the Class B semifinals. And while it was a great season, they fell a little short of their ultimate goal. Head coach, Randy Norton says that this year’s squad will have some new faces, but their goal will be the same. “We will be replacing five seniors on both sides of the ball,” Norton said. “We do have a
lot of young talent coming up.” Leading the offense at quarterback will be Mikey
Griffith (6-2, 205, Jr.). He will play a big role in helping the offense get to the end zone. Working to keep the defense out of the backfield is going to be offensive lineman Cooper Paramore (6-2, 260, Sr.). Langston Walker (6-2, 180, Sr.) will be a target at wide receiver for Griffith to get the ball to.

DEFENSE
On the defensive side of the ball, the Comets are going to try to slow down opposing offenses and keep them out of the endzone. Talon Quick (6-2, 190, Jr.) and Griffith will maintain things from the linebacker position. They have had a great summer and are ready to make a big impact on the field. In the secondary, Slade Strickland (6-0, 170, So.) is ready to lockdown opposing receivers. Assistant coaches this season are Jake McGuire, Ben Justus, Rusty Burton, and Creede Wright.
