Cameron University’s Korie Allensworth – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Cameron University

Former standout at Empire and Sulphur High Schools, Korie Allensworth is now a senior at Cameron University and a member of the Cameron basketball team. Allensworth spent her freshman year of college at a larger school but realized what she wanted from her college experience and decided to transfer to Cameron University.

“After my freshman year at a DI school, I realized I wanted to get back to Oklahoma and closer to home. Cameron feels like home away from home for me. I knew once I got here, I wanted to be an Aggie,” said Allensworth.

Finding her way on a new campus was relatively easy, but there is always an adjustment period when joining a new team.

“The biggest adjustment for me was the pace of play and finding my role as a player on a new team,” said Allensworth. “I would say to freshmen, prepare for the change of pace and embrace the newness of college life and all it has to offer.”

During her career, Allensworth has spent time in other organizations such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the SAAC organization.
For Allensworth, college has been more than just basketball and attending class. It’s been an opportunity to step out of her comfort zone and try new things.

“I have enjoyed meeting new people and just getting the experience the student-athlete life. Not everyone gets to experience this, and I try my best not to take it for granted,” said Allensworth.

As a Sports and Exercise Science major with a minor in business, Allensworth is looking forward to starting a career in that field and continue in sports, not as a player, but as someone who can help the athlete get back on the court. Cameron University was a great place for Allensworth to complete her degree and move forward in life. “Cameron has a ton of opportunities for students to get involved in the community, to seek help for classes, and to meet new people. Everyone here at Cameron cares for one another and wants each other to succeed,” said Allensworth.
