Newcastle’s Lyndon Evans – Character Counts – Presented by First National Bank

Success is something that everyone strives for. Whether it is in your job, your family, or anything else, we all want to be successful. Athletes are no different. They work hard to prepare for competition with the goal of being the best in their sights. Lyndon Evans knows what it takes to reach that level of success that he has but he knows that there is more.

“It has taken a lot to get where I am,” he said. “Hard work, discipline, and courage have been big keys,” he said. “Also, having teammates that motivate me to better myself each and every day.”

Evans is a senior at Newcastle High School, where he plays football and is a member of the track and field team. He says that he has played football for the past nine years, while he has thrown the discus and shotput for four years.

Throughout his career, Lyndon’s life has been influenced by a few people, one of whom is someone he is very close to.

“My dad is the biggest role model in my life,” Evans said. “He has always said you can do whatever you want, but you do it right and give all you got every day no matter what. He has also been an example of a man that I should strive to be like every day. Another person that I look up to is my environmental science teacher, Mr. Stark. He has taught me the importance of staying dedicated and the value of friendship.”

During his athletic career, Lyndon has enjoyed some really memorable moments on the field, but he says that his favorite memories are a couple of personal achievements.

“The highlight of my career was when I accepted my scholarship to play football at the University of Central Oklahoma,” he recalled. “I have always wanted to play football at the collegiate level. Another moment would be when I was awarded the track state runner up this year. Those were both really big accomplishments.”

In the fall, Evans plans to major in Occupational Safety while playing football at UCO.
