Q & A with Navajo’s Alyssa Menees Presented by Chad Lee State Farm

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Alyssa: I would say my family inspires me. My family is nothing but hard workers. If they have a goal or anything theywant to achieve they don’t stop pushing and working towards it til they happily get there. After a good or bad game my family is always waiting for me with a smile on their face to say good job. I believe my family pushes me to be the best version of me.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Alyssa: My favorite teacher was my 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Webb. Mrs. Webb was so inspirational and loving. She taught me that school or reading wasn’t a burden, it was a privilege. She was one of my favorites and one the the teachers who left the biggest impact on me.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?

Alyssa: The professional athlete I look up to is Asjia O’Neal. The reason I look up to her is because nothing in the world can stop her. She was born with a heart problem but that didn’t and doesn’t stop her from pursuing her dreams in volleyball. She to this day is an amazing and outgoing volleyball player.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Alyssa: If I could pick any place I would choose to take a summer vacation to Montana. I would love to bring my friends and family along with me. The reason I would choose Montana is because we have family up there that we hardly get to see and the state is so beautiful.

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Alyssa: I got into volleyball over the summer. Navajo just recently picked up volleyball and my friend pursued me to join. I joined practice and shortly after I fell in love with it. I am so   grateful for my friend encouraging me to join and to be where I am today with volleyball.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Alyssa: My favorite part about being on a team is how we come together and work as one. I love that our team is so uplifting and encouraging. I am glad that as a team we are learning how to work with each other and improving together.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Alyssa: I am passionate about my sport because I see and feel the potential of our sport and our team. I love when one of my teammates or I get a kill or work well as a team and the excitement and the pride that comes after it.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Alyssa: The teammate that had left the biggest impact on me is Michela, our foreign exchange student. She is an amazing player and an amazing teammate. She’s played volleyball for a couple years so she doesn’t mind teaching something or helping out with anything.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Alyssa: I would like to say thank you to my coaches, family, and friends. Thank you to Coach Ford and Coach Watson for teaching me all I know and being amazing coaches. Thank you to my parents, my brothers, and my grandparents for supporting me, encouraging me, and always trying to come to my games. Thank you to my friends for being so understanding, loving, and coming along with me for my journey.
