MANGUM TIGERS

Coach: SAM POWERS

7-4

OFFENSE

A staggering number of starters are back for head coach Sam Powers this season on both sides of the ball. That experience will help this team as they look to improve on the 7-4 effort from a year ago. “A young team now a year older, returning 10 of 11 on offense and 9 of 11 on defense. Should be able to compete for the district title. The experience this young group had to be exposed to early will make them a tough opponent week in and week out,” said coach Powers. The one player not returning to the starting lineup is quarterback Remington Laughlin (6-4, 180, Fr.). The big freshman will have plenty of weapons to lean on the season. Ashton Pride (5-8, 185, Sr.) had 1,672 all-purpose yards, but as a wide receiver Pride accounted for 893 yards on 17 touchdowns. Running back Nick Lavoie (5-8, 175, Jr.) had 103 carries for 794 yards and 11 touchdowns. Aidan Warner (5-9, 160, Sr.) is moving from QB to WR this season after throwing for over 2,000 yards and scoring 27 TDs. Avery Rogers (6-0, 170, Jr.) is another running back in the lineup. Rogers recorded 40 carries for 380 yards and five scores last season. Gavin Williams (5-9, 265, Jr.) started 11 games and is the anchor of the offensive line.

DEFENSE

Relentless pursuit and gap control are the two main focal points for the defense. Jake Green (6-4, 200, Jr.) made 68 tackles and two sacks with eight tackles for loss from his defensive line position. He will be joined by Pasquale Bitondi (6-1, 225, Sr.) who made 23 tackles and two sacks of his own. Bitondi is an Italian foreign exchange student who returns for another year of high school. He is also one of the top kickers in the in the class, possibly the state. Cooper Earls (6-0, 190, Sr.) brings size and speed to the linebacker spot. Earls made 80 tackles, forced two fumbles, and had eight tackles for loss as a junior. Trey Williams (5-11, 200, So.) is making the move to linebacker from nose guard where he made 38 tackles a year ago. Pride will play safety with Laughlin. Pride picked off four passes last season at safety.
