Hollis’ Karlee McFerrin Athlete Spotlight Presented by Cattlemens Bank

There can be ups and downs in the relationship between siblings. There are times when
they are best friends and get along great, while there are other times when they disagree
and do not get along. Hollis’ Karlee McFerrin’s relationship with her sister fits that bill to a
tee.
“The biggest influence on my life is my older sister Jaycee,” she said. “We fight a lot being
sisters, but she always encourages me and makes me want to be better. But she is also the
teammate I enjoy working with the most. She is our pitcher, and I love getting to bat against
her because it makes her so mad that she can’t strike me out.”

Karlee is a freshman at Hollis High School. Along with playing softball, she is also a member
of the basketball, powerlifting, and track teams.
Becoming the athlete that she is today has required a lot of work from Karlee. She also says
that the support of others has also been key.
“Having coaches that push me everyday to be better is something that has helped me be
who I am,” she stated. “I have that in every sport that I play. I also practice and play a lot of
ball outside of school. My coaches motivate me the most. Coach Hodges and coach
Hightower both make me want to do my best in every sport.”
Being able to wear the Hollis uniform when she competes is something that is special to
Karlee and she does not take it for granted.
“It really means a lot to me to be able to represent Hollis,” she said. “I like it because of how
much the community supports us. Hollis has the best people and you don’t go without
anything. I always want to do my best for this community and make them proud.”
There are some college and professional athletes that McFerrin looks up to, but she has one
that she looks up to the most.
“Kinzie Hansen is an outstanding softball player,” she said. “I love OU softball and she is a
catcher also. I heard her speak at a FCA Camp I went to and I loved hearing her story.”
