Hollis’ Jaycee McFerrin – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Harmon Memorial Hospital

Jaycee McFerrin

Hollis High School

Entering her sophomore season with Hollis softball, Jaycee McFerrin could see time at multiple positions this season. Something she is prepared for and looking forward to.

“I am the pitcher and I also play first base. It’s hard to put into words how much it means to me to get to represent Hollis, because no matter what I say it won’t be enough. Getting to step on that mound and wear that Hollis jersey means so much to me. This town, and the people in it are amazing. The support we receive here is the best you could ask for. It would be hard for anyone to change my mind when I tell you it’s the best around,” McFerrin said. “Hollis is a great place to be a student-athlete because of how much support we get from the whole community. From the businesses, families, past alumni, teachers and admin to our coaches, we do not go without. In every sport that I have been a part of at Hollis, they have all pitched in on snacks, team meals, equipment, and just about anything we need. I consider myself lucky to be a Hollis Lady Tiger.”

Softball and basketball have always been the sports of choice for McFerrin.

“Growing up I always loved to play softball and basketball. While I love both sports, I had to make a tough decision last year and quit basketball. I was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth Disease and my body just doesn’t work well with basketball anymore. Coach Hightower has let me be a manager, which I love so I still feel like I’m part of the team. So, I would say that softball is my favorite sport,” said McFerrin.

McFerrin said she has enjoyed all of the classes and teachers. Last year she joined FFA, which has been a great experience for McFerrin.

“I joined FFA last year and it was probably one of the best decisions I have made. Mr. Shelby is the best FFA teacher, and I learned so much from him, and I can’t wait for this year to start. I really excel in math, so I would have to say my favorite subject is math with coach Webb. He is such a great teacher and I learned so much from him,” said McFerrin.

McFerrin said the team may have some holes to fill, but she said to look for several of her teammates this season.

“Senior Jaylee Randolph is as tough as they come, and she has a strong bat. Senior Morgan Robinson is quick with a good bat, and she could cover the whole outfield if you needed her to. Sophomore Tori Whisenant is quick and always finds a way on base. Freshman Karlee McFerrin has a strong bat and she will do or play wherever coach needs her to play,” said McFerrin.
