Hollis Cross Country Spotlight – Layni Horton – Presented by Cattlemens Bank

To most people, going the extra mile simply means giving your all, in one facet of life. But to Hollis High School sophomore Layni Horton, going the extra mile means not only giving it all in life, but pushing herself to do her best in cross country. And during her years of running cross country, she has racked up many miles.

She states, “My favorite part of cross country is that it physically challenges you as well as it is mentally challenging.”

When asked who inspired Layni the most in life, she stated, “My late cousin Kenzie Horton. Kenzie inspired me to do everything to the best of my ability and to do so with kindness.”

Besides cross country, Layni plays other sports including basketball, which she has played for five years, as well as participating in track at Hollis High School. Outside of sports, Layni is a member of the Future Farmers of America.

Layni believes that faith plays a key role in her life. Having a servant- like attitude, she helps each week at Wednesday night services at her church.

Most would think that Layni has a full plate, but these activities are not enough to keep Layni busy. She also spends a significant amount of time researching the field of dentistry. Layni stays up to date about various dentistry firms online, as well as keeping current by looking at news in the field of dentistry.

As the phrase goes, readers are leaders, and Layni classifies herself as an avid reader. After high school, Layni is optimistic to turn her passion of the dental field into a career, and plans on eventually attending the University of Oklahoma’s Medical School and obtaining a Doctorate of Pediatric Dentistry. Through diversity of her activities, and determination outside the classroom, Layni makes it clear that her character is full of integrity.
