Hollis’ Cooper Cummins – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Stockmans Bank

Cooper Cummins is a 17 year old dual sport athlete for the Hollis Tigers and, at the time of this interview, was busily preparing for a post-season run as the shortstop and catcher for his baseball team.

“I’m coming back from a knee injury,” Cummins said. “I just got cleared the last day of districts. We won the district tournament for the first time in five years. Our goal this year as a team has been to make it to the state tournament. We have dreamed since we were little kids to make it together as a team. My goal as an individual would be to sign with a college in the fall.”

As a junior, Cummins realizes that some people look up to him and leaving a legacy at Hollis is not just about athletics, but being someone known for excellent character.

“Character is very important to me,” he said. “It means going the extra mile, sprinting on and off the field, and picking up trash after or before games. It’s about holding myself accountable, regardless if it’s my fault or not, and always trying to do something that betters myself or the team in any aspect of the game. I also think character is in my grades. I have managed to keep a 4.0 all three years in my high school career. I am also a member of National Honor Society, where I participate in giving back to my community. I think all of that goes into character and making me a better teammate and also becoming a better man.”

In his free time, Cummins said he enjoys spending time with his friends at the field, going to the batting cages, or showing livestock.

“I’d like to thank my parents and grandparents most importantly for taking me to hundreds of games along my career,” he said. “Also my high school coach and summer coach Nico Maldonado for always having my best interest at heart and exposing me as a player to college coaches.”
