Hobart’s Reydon Salazar – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Cattlemens Bank

By: Hunter Ferguson

Hobart basketball player Reydon Salazar spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year are too grow stronger in my faith, to be a great leader and teammate on and off the court, make it to the state tournament, maintain my GPA, and make lasting memories for my senior year.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun i’ve had this year was during fast-pitch softball. we were playing a three way between navajo and hydro. during the navajo game i got smoked in the face by a line drive while playing shortstop, in which my eye swelled and i was pulled the rest of the game. the next game against hydro i came back with that same swollen eye playing shortstop, and made two diving plays and went 3-4 at the plate.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My AP English teacher Sandra Quintero is the most sweetest most genuine and understanding person you could come across. moving your junior year is never easy but she has helped me make it through.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory is playing against the girls i grew up with. it was a tough game with a lot of emotions and in the end the girls i am with now pulled out a win.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

When I first moved it was hard to adapt but Reese Porter took me under her wing and guided me through all the hardships i faced. she taught me how to be understanding and compassionate for my teammates.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part about being apart of this team is being able to bond like glue even though it took a while to understand each other. I know my teammates have my back as I have theirs.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

If I had the choice of a summer vacation it would be Paris, France. I chose this destination because of the history and scenery Paris has to offer. I would take Channing Davis because we always have the best time together.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

If I had $500 I would buy christmas presents for the ones who might not have a christmas this year.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I participate in Big Bang with my school every year. It is a project where we go around picking up trash, painting fire hydrants, cleaning the buses, etc…

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am apart of FCCLA, FCA, math club, and junior main street. I participate in these clubs because I like to be involved in the school and my community.

VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

The academic clubs I participate in are the National Honor Society, Native American National Honor Society, Student Council, and AP club.
