Hobart Boys Basketball 2023 Preview – Presented by Bandi Gutters

By: Hunter Ferguson

Last year was a great season for the Hobart Bearcats, as they went 23-7 and made it to the State Tournament for the first time since 2003.

“This year’s team is working hard to make it back to the state tournament and we know that

there is a higher expectation to do that. We are going to compete every time we step on the court and will defend and rebound relentlessly. We look forward to taking the next step with our leadership and experience to go compete for a gold ball” said their coach.

Key to the team’s success will be the return of multiple varsity starters. Their coach chose to highlight three in particular saying “Our 3 seniors Justice Johnson, Aiden Morris and Trey Eschiti are the leaders of this team. Justice Johnson is one of the top players in the state and can play inside and outside, creating for himself and others. Aiden Morris is a dynamic guard who can stretch the defense with his ability to shoot the ball and gets after it on defense. Trey brings toughness in the paint, cleans up our missed shots, and protects the paint for us. Another x factor is Ty Harmon, our guard who can stretch the defense with his shooting and get to the rim with his quickness”.

While the team ultimately hopes to return to the state championship, Coach says “Obviously we have to stay healthy and out of foul trouble to play our best ball but we also have to fight complacency and understand that every practice and game is an opportunity to get better”.

Supporting them on this journey and those they believe are deserving of more recognition are “our parents, fans, and Bearcat supporters for everything they do”.
