Hobart Bearcats 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Cattlemens Bank

HOBART BEARCATS

Coach: COLT ALLISON

2-8

OFFENSE

With nine returning starters on offense, the Hobart Bearcats appear ready to turn the corner and shake off back-to-back 2-8 seasons to get back on a winning track. “Though we have nine starters back, we’ll still be young as most of these returners are all juniors and sophomores, so I expect us to improve in all aspects of the game,” said head coach Colt Allison. While the skill players normally get all of the glory, the heart and sole of this Hobart team is guard Jaxon Allison (6-5, 265, Jr.), a VYPE Top 100 nominee. “Jaxon came on strong mid-way through his sophomore year as our best offensive lineman, leading in blocking percentage and pancake blocks. He’s got great size, is explosive off the line and is a leader for us on both sides of the ball,” said coach Allison. The big guard will be blocking for Ty Harmon (5-10, 150, Jr.), who returns at quarterback for the Bearcats. There’s a trio of running backs that will give opposing defenses different styles in Trey Cole (5-10, 165, Jr.), Blaine Lopez (5-10, 150, Jr.), and Sawyer Davidson (6-0, 165, Jr.). Re-joining Allison on the line will be Davis Reents (5-11, 170, Sr.), who coach Allison praised for his hard work and persistence.

DEFENSE

Allison and Lopez will go both ways for the Bearcats at lineman and defensive back respectively. The returning linebackers will be Dalton Hamlet (5-9, 170, So.) and Logan Tacker (6-0, 170, Jr.) and Cole. “Dalton is our best defensive player with an above average football IQ and tremendous instincts which help him destroy plays before they have a chance to develop,” said coach Allison. Shooter Mayabb (5-9, 230, So.) will return to the defensive line while Ethan Funkhouser (5-9, 170, So.) will team up with Lopez in the secondary. The Bearcats will run a 4-3 defense.
