Altus’ Daniel Becerra – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Cirque Dance Studio

There is someone in everyone’s life that is impactful in their life. For some, it could be a celebrity or professional athlete that they look up to, while others it can be a family member or someone that is part of their everyday life. For Daniel Becerra, his biggest influences fall in the latter.

“My dad is the biggest role model for me,” he said. “He had a rough childhood and has produced many great things despite it. Another would be coach Henson. He has pushed me to be my best no matter what the circumstances were.”

Becerra is a junior at Altus High School. He is a member of the Bulldogs’ football, powerlifting, and track teams.

During his career, Daniel has spent a lot of time and effort in order to become the player that he is today. But he says that there are days you have to fight through in order to continue to improve.

“It has taken a lot of heart and practice in order to become the athlete that I am,” he said. “There have been days when I did not feel well but you have to push through. My family and my teammates have been my biggest motivation and support.”

Robert Garrison is the head coach of the Altus track team. He says that Becerra is not afraid to put in the work and is also a great example to the rest of the team.

“Daniel has continued to be a great worker and always goes above and beyond to work at the throws,” Garrison said. “He comes out after school, on weekends and whenever he has the time. I also use him to help teach the younger throwers the technique they need to make themselves better.”

When Daniel puts on his Altus uniform, he knows that he is competing for more than just himself.
“It means a lot for me to represent Altus,” he said. “We have a rich history in winning and I would like to be one of the people that help Altus get back to that.”
