Track and field taught Addison Woodward that life is a long journey, particularly when
running cross country. She says one must “manage your energy accordingly to make it
through to the end.”
Addison is a junior at Altus High School. She has always enjoyed running with friends.
She became a cross country runner in elementary school.

For many people running cross country seems to be impossible but her love of running
is proof that nothing is impossible. “To think I can achieve the impossible every day
motivates me,” said Addison.
Seeing her friends succeed is Addison’s favorite part of being on a team. The best
memories are from finishing races and coming home with a trophy. “It’s always
rewarding to see us get first for all our hard work,” she said.
She is inspired by fellow runner Aiden Chapa. “He pushes me to achieve better times,
push harder in practice and medal almost every race,” she says. “I’d like to thank Aiden
for loving me and supporting me in everything, Coach Reyna for inspiring me to do
better every race and my sibling Nik for being there for when I need someone to listen.”
Addison proudly represents AHS as an athlete. Making a difference in how others see
her school inspires Addison to show what Altus has to offer, not only in athletics but
academics as well. Teachers like Mr. Rautio make the school a better place. “Mr. Rautio
helped me build confidence in my writing,” she says.
Addison would love to take time to visit Wyoming with Aiden to enjoy the natural
scenery and maybe enjoy her favorite meal of ravioli. Whether running in a race or just
living life, Addison always remembers the best advice she has been given. “It is okay to
breathe.”
In addition to cross country Addison is the president of Altus Teens Interact.
