2023 Sentinel Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Pearce’s Southside Grocery

By: Hunter Ferguson

VYPE was told in a recent interview with persons non descript that “We had a great season. We had a record of 24-6 and made it to the State Tournament in Class B. This was the first time for Sentinel to be in the State Tournament in 20 years”. We’re told this season they “moved up to Class A but I expect us to have a great season and go back to the State Tournament and compete for a State Championship. Class A is really deep but I believe we are as good as anyone around and have great opportunities”.

VYPE was told “I know there are going to be a lot of people that doubt whether or not we can hang with the teams in Class A but I have no doubt we can be one of the best teams. We have a unique team with our depth and the way we play which will cause a lot of team problems”.

It’s being said that “it will take us some time to find our rhythm since we are adding some people that haven’t played here. Each year is a new team no matter how many you return so it will take some time to figure ourselves out and find a flow but I like the challenge of figuring out a way to play so many guys and fit together. Injuries are always a concern also. These guys have worked really hard through the summer and continue to work hard so I think we can minimize the injuries but it always takes a little luck too”.

Key to the success of the team this season will be many “guys that can do a lot of different things. We play 9 or 10 guys so we have a lot of guys that can score and defend. We return 4 starters Raul Lopez, Brady Wootton, Mavrick Sanders, and  Ace Snowden. We also have some great role players off the bench and had two players move in that will help us. Brady Wootton, a Junior, led us in scoring last year. He is a very athletic guard who scores from anywhere. Raul Lopez is an athletic wing that is very versatile. He expanded his game through the playoffs last season and has been a consistent scorer also. Maverick Sanders, a sophomore, is a long athletic wing player that is also very versatile in what he can do offensively and defensively. Ace Snowden, also a sophomore, is a quick and athletic guard that can also score and defend”.
