VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they
impact you as a player?
Michael Adesola: It’s hard to pick a favorite coach. They have all massively impacted my
life since I’ve been here at Elgin. I guess I would say my top two are Coach Wyatt and Coach
Castro. They have always believed in me since I first started the sport back in 8th grade. I
am very grateful for them and very lucky to be coached by them. They both taught me
discipline, toughness, and what it means to be a leader. And I will keep those qualities with
me throughout life.
VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?
MA: I know that every one of my teammates supports me but there are two that have been
by my side since the beginning. Andre Crabtree and Trey Crabtree. Andre has always been a
good friend. He pushes me to be better, especially during conditioning. We make a mission
every day to beat the other person and not be last. Trey is always down to get some extra
work in. There have been many days that we just stay after practice and work on the little
things that we need to get better at. He always adds more fun and energy to practices.
VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?
MA: My favorite teacher would be Mrs. Young. She is the nicest person you’ll ever meet. She
is always willing to help in any way she can. She’s been a role model in just being a good
person. I take that with me every day to help someone in some way.
VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for
the upcoming season?
MA: This off-season I worked my craft. My junior year was great but there were still many
things I could improve on. Quite a few coaches have told me that I could be a lot better and
more open if I work on being more sudden and getting out of my breaks. I practiced that all
summer and worked on my flexibility. I can’t wait to see how it pays off this season.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
MA: The biggest thing football taught me was discipline and toughness. Coach Wyatt often
said football wasn’t just for anyone. You have to be tougher than most people, more
discipline the most people, and you have to want it more than most people. I love football
because it requires me to make smart decisions. Even after playing sports, that part of
football will always stick with me.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?
MA: My favorite memory is anything time I’m with my team. One particular time was the
game against MacArthur. That was the game of my life. I just remember celebrating with
my team on the way back home after the win. That whole night was definitely one I’ll
always remember.
VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season (individual or team goals)?
MA: Our team goal is to go 14-0 and win the state title. We are very determined and are
willing to do whatever it takes to get there. I make it my personal goal to do my job to help
the team achieve its number one goal.
VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?
MA: I’m looking forward to every single game that we’ll play. Every game matters to where
we’ll be at the end. What matter most is what the scoreboard says when the clock hits zero.
VYPE: What are you plans after high school?
MA: I plan to hopefully continue to play football in college. I plan to get a degree in health
and medicine.
