In the game of football, to simply play a position requires dedication and precision. But for Hobart High School junior, Thatcher Heglin, he goes above the minimum, playing 2 positions in football- wide receiver and corner. Thatcher is not new to the game, having played football for 6 years.
Being on a team builds comradery with other players on the team. This facet of the sport is in part what Thatcher enjoys the most. Thatcher elaborated, “My favorite part is the game itself and the brotherhood you gain from it.”
Over the years, many memories are made when playing sports. For Thatcher his favorite memory was made years ago. He recalled, “My favorite memory of playing is when I caught my first touchdown in a game. It was so exciting!’
When it comes to who has inspired Thatcher the most thus far in life, he looks to family. Thatcher reflected, “My dad is my biggest influence because he pushed me to be better and believed in me.”
As far as the professional athlete that Thatcher likes the most, he looks up to a famous football player. Thatcher stated, “My favorite athlete is Tim Tebow, because he was strong in his faith through adversity, and was a good player.” It is clear to Thatcher that faith helps motivate him in sports, academics, and life in general.
In terms of academics, Thatcher proclaimed, “My favorite academic subject is world history.”
After graduating from high school, Thatcher plans on pursuing higher education. Thatcher proclaimed, “I plan to attend Oklahoma State University for college.”
Off the gridiron, Thatcher enjoys other activities. He stated, “I like to play golf, hang out with friends, and play pickup basketball.”
For Thatcher, his determination and humbleness will not only lead to success on and off the field, but also for fueling his future.
