Hollis High School’s Cara Cummins is a member of the varsity basketball and cheer teams, while serving as a class officer. Cummins also spends a large amount of her time as a member of the FFA chapter. 

Her first experience with FFA was in the eighth grade. 

“The first time I put on that blue and gold jacket was in the eighth grade. My whole family was in FFA, so I knew it was something that I wanted to be involved in,” said Cummins. “We are an agriculture family. Both my parents and my older brother were in FFA.” 

Cummins said she has enjoyed everything FFA has to offer. 

“The thing I enjoy most about the FFA is the people I have met. It’s so much fun to go to events and know people from all over Oklahoma and the United States because of this program,” said Cummins. “I have become very involved in the livestock aspect of the FFA. I have also been a part of the public speaking by competing in speech contests both individually and with my team.” 

Showing her animals and taking care of them is something Cummins truly enjoys. 

“I show a bunch! I show heifers, steers, pigs, and goats. I’ve shown since I could walk,” said Cummins. 

As a sophomore on the basketball team, Cummins said she enjoys competing with her teammates who are lifelong friends. 

“My basketball team is made up of many of my life long best friends. We enjoy practicing and playing together because we know we all want the same outcome,” said Cummins. 

Once she graduates from Hollis High School, Cummins said she plans on attending Oklahoma State University and majoring in Ag Communications. Cummins said she would recommend FFA to anyone interested. 

“The things you can learn from FFA are some of the most important things you will learn in life,” said Cummins.
