Thackerville’s Kylee Byars – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Ag Credit Ardmore

Thackerville High School’s Kylee Byars first joined the FFA a year ago as an eighth grader and is now entering her first year of high school. Byars said she joined FFA thanks to the encouragement of a teacher at school.

“I first got involved with FFA in eighth grade,” said Byars. “My Ag teacher Brandon Upton definitely got me involved in FFA.”

For Byars, being part of FFA is another opportunity for her to learn new skills and enjoy the many activities the chapter offers.

“I enjoy getting to do all the hands-on activities in FFA,” said Byars. “I am involved in welding and equine science.”

At one time, Byars showed swine, but now she is focused on her welding and equine science. Byars said she enjoyed showing her pigs, but as she gets more involved in FFA, she is finding more activities and things she is interested in. Byars also plays softball, basketball and is a member of the varsity cheer team.
For the softball team, Byars plays pitcher, catcher, and middle infield. She said her parents have always encouraged her to do her best in all of her activities and have a good work ethic.

“My mom and dad have been the biggest influence in my life, they have taught me to work hard for everything I have,” said Byars.
The freshman said she would recommend other students who are interested in the many activities the FFA has to offer, should consider joining the chapter. “I would highly recommend them joining FFA. It truly is great,” said Byars.
