Wilson’s Kalyn Forsythe and Ally Powel – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Owens Insurance Agency

By Derrick Smith

Ally Powell & Kalyn Forsythe are teammates on the Wilson High School softball team. We wanted to take some time and help you get to know them a little better, so we decided to have a fun Q&A session.

Q: What grade are you in and what position do you play on the team?
AP: I am a sophomore and I am a pitcher
KF: I play catcher and I am also a sophomore

Q: Who on your team is the team comedian?
AP: The team comedian is Ashtyn Baker. She can make anyone laugh.
KF: I think the team comedian is Ashtyn, who we just call Baker.

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?
AP: Jennie Finch is my favorite professional athlete because I look up to her and dream to be as good as a pitcher that she is.
KF: My favorite athlete is Michael Jordan because when he played he always kept his and his teammates heads up and pushed himself, he never gave up and always set a good example.

Q: What has been your favorite memory of playing softball so far?
AP: My favorite memory from softball is when I hit a home run in machine pitch and missed home plate.
KF: My favorite memory in softball is when I hit it over in slow-pitch rounding third and seeing my teammates super excited for me.

Q: What is the best advice that anyone has ever given you?
AP: I had a teammate tell me “Don’t focus on the past innings, but focus on what you can change which is right now.”
KF: The best advice I’ve ever got was “Learn from your failures, whether it’s on the field or in the classroom. What’s most important is you get better from that.”

Q: What is your favorite part about representing Wilson on the softball field?
AP: My favorite part of representing Wilson high school is when adults that you don’t know cheer you on like your their own kid
KF: Stepping onto the field as I hear people I’ve never met before call out my name and cheer me on as I step up to the plate or get ready to play defense.
