Hobart’s Rhett Duff – Athlete Spotlight – presented By Stockmans Bank

By Derrick Smith

There are people that make a major impact on our lives and help us become the people that we are. The person could be a famous celebrity or athlete, but that is not always the case. Rett Duff says that the biggest influence on his life is someone that he is very close to.
“My dad is the person that I look up to the most,” Duff said. “He teaches me how to live my life the right way and without him, I would not be the person that I am.”
Rett is a senior at Hobart High School, where he plays football and baseball for the Bearcats. On the football field, he plays left guard on offense, and on defense, he lines up at the defensive end position. He has played football for four years and says that he loves the game he plays.

Another person that has had an influence on Duff is one of the football assistant coaches who is also one of Rett’s teachers.
“Coach Mooney would have to be my favorite teacher,” he said. “He has taught me everything I need to know about history. He is a great teacher and I really enjoy his class.”
Duff has invested a lot in order to grow as a player and as a person over his career. He says that there are two main things needed in order to be a successful athlete.
“You have to be willing to put in the hard work,” he said. “Whether it is in the weight room or at practice, you have to always give it your all. You also have to bring a good attitude. That will definitely help you.’
During the span of his career, Duff has made some great memories with his teammates. Some have been on the field and some have been off. Out of all of them, he says that there is one memory that stands out the most.
“My highlight moment would have to be when we won our district,” he said. “Knowing that our team came together that season and we able to reach that together was a great feeling.”
Along with playing sports, Rett is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Student Council.
