Plainview’s Lindyn Ross – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Excel Therapy

Athletes at all levels know that if they want to be successful in their sport, they have to be willing to put in hours of work to get better. They have to be more than just physically ready – they also have to be mentally ready. For Lindyn Ross, it means putting in the work every day.

“For me to be successful, it has taken a lot of hard work and practice,” she said. “There are no off days. To be a competitor you have to spend time practicing on your weak spots and constantly improving.”

Ross is a senior at Plainview High School where she is a member of the golf team. She has played golf since she could pick up a golf club, but as she entered junior high, she decided to become more focused on it.

“I have been around golf my entire life,” she said. “But I became serious about it during my eighth grade year. Each year, I have seen the improvement in my game. My freshman year, I was fifth bag, I moved up to fourth bag during my sophomore year. Last season was cancelled due to COVID-19, and now I am second bag.”

There have been a few people that have made impacts on Ross’ life, but she says that the biggest influence has come from her dad.

“My biggest role model would have to be my dad,” she said. “He has been a golf coach for twenty-five plus years and has taught me everything I know. His past victories have inspired me to do everything I can to be my best. He has tons of stories of past players that he talks about that usually come with some sort of lesson.”

Along with athletics, Lindyn is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Student Council, and the National Honor Society.

While she enjoys athletics, Ross says there’s more to life than just sports.

“I am not only an athlete,” she said. “I work very hard in school and have maintained a 4.06 GPA. I am also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ardmore Youth Group and in the fall I helped lead a Wednesday night small group of eighth grade girls.”
