Cameron University’s Colton Daniels – Army ROTC Spotlight

Current Cameron University sophomore and ROTC cadet Colton Daniels started his training when he was in high school thanks to the JROTC program. Now a cadet at Cameron University, Daniels said he enjoys it even more now that he is in college.

“My Mustang High School JROTC instructor knew I wanted to go to college and had been thinking about joining the military already. So, he showed me the ROTC program at Cameron, and I decided to try it out,” said Daniels. “Honestly, I’ve enjoyed the diversity of the people within the program and making friends with them while at the same time learning leadership skills. Some of my closest friends have come from the program due to all of us not only going through the same program but also having to embrace the same struggles that come with it.”

Daniels is an English major at Cameron who stays involved on campus while working towards his degree. Daniels would like to serve in the U.S. Army as a 27A or JAG Attorney. As result of his hard work in both Cameron University’s academic and military classrooms, Colton earned a 3.5 year ROTC Scholarship.

“I’m currently part of Kappa Sigma and I’m also a Residential Assistant so I’ve hosted or been a part of multiple events across campus,” said Daniels. “I’m an English major with a focus on literature. Hopefully after I graduate, I can get into law school to become a JAG officer.”

Cadet Daniels offers this advice to other JROTC students or current college students thinking about the ROTC as a program they would like to join.

“Just do it. Just try it out, especially if you’re planning on joining the Army or any other military branch,” said Daniels.

In his free time Daniels said he enjoys doing community service and reading.

“I also like playing video games like almost every other college student. I also love going down to coffee places within Lawton and doing homework with friends,” said Daniels.
