Weatherford golf spotlight – Witten Beam – Presented by More Than Medicine

??????????

Witten Beam might be one of Weatherford, Oklahoma’s hardest-working teens.

“Well, during the summer and a little during school, I hope out my step dad on the farm with cattle and whatever needs to be done,” Beam said. “I am on our school’s golf team, which has grown in the last couple years. . . We’re trying to make it more and more competitive, and we have a good group of guys playing on it, and I couldn’t ask for better teammates.

Beam’s father is a lawyer and helped instill the importance of worth ethic and industriousness within him.

“Having a dad who is a lawyer helped me learn time management skills and routines that I apply to my golf game for consistency,” Beam said.

Beam was proud of what he accomplished on the golf course this year.

“We placed more tournaments, which was nice. Best part of the year was Yukon finally breaking 90,” Beam said.

Next year, Beam hopes to shoot in the 70s and played in more tournament “and get drastically better on the course to hopefully get more of us to get a shot at state.”

Growing up in Weatherford and farming is “a different lifestyle and definitely a different culture to be raised in,” Beam said, but it’s an honest one. He wants to go to Oklahoma State and pursue a degree in engineering and/or business.

A member of First United Methodist Church of Weatherford, Beam’s faith is an important aspect of his life. A friend, Logan, helped lead him to take more initiative within his Wednesday night youth group.

“It’s important to me, because it’s the foundation for the way I live my life and my actions. It’s my own special relationship with God,” Beam said. “[Logan is] always pushing me out of my comfort zone to grow a relationship with God, and he brought me to stir up the fire not long after we both taught a lesson for our Wednesday night group and that helped me get closer to God as well.”
