Coach: Derrick Bull
2021-22 Record: 23-7
Head Coach Derrick Bull and the Weatherford Eagles made an appearance in the semifinals of the state tournament last season and are hoping to take the next step this year. “We return four of the top six players from last season and will have a much more experienced core of players this year who have worked hard this offseason to improve their game,” Bull said. “If a few young role players can step up in some areas of need I believe we will have a chance to make another run back to the state tournament and hopefully make some noise there.”
One of the young players to keep an eye on is CJ Nickson (6-6, So.) who is extremely athletic and can play all five positions on the floor. As a freshman he averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Nickson is a matchup nightmare and makes an impact on both ends of the floor. He can take over the game when necessary and will only continue to improve as he grows and adds more layers to his already impressive skill set.
Nate Reherman (6-6) is an outstanding defender and rebounder. Reherman plays with a high motor and uses his size to his advantage. He is at his best when finishing around the rim using a soft touch and his length causes problems for opponents on the defensive end.
Twins Tate (6-6, So.) and Ethan Sage (6-6, So.) were also solid contributors for Weatherford on their semifinal run a year ago. The twins add even more size and versatility for the Eagles who will have the size and athleticism to match any team they face all season. Expect Weatherford to be a top contender in Class 4A for the next several years with their solid core of young and athletic two-way players.
