Being an underclassman at Weatherford High School does not stop Harlie Chism from leaving a real impact on her basketball team, coaches, and everyone else she comes into contact with.

“Harlie is a sophomore that played varsity minutes last season as a role player. She will play a much bigger role this season both offensively and defensively,” said her basketball coach.

There are so many things that Harlie can list on what loves about basketball but her favorite part is all about the people.

“Basketball gives me the opportunity to be surrounded by a community all routing for one goal,” said Harlie. “I love the feeling of a close game and how loud everyone gets. A lot of people get scared and nervous, but I try to think of it as how well you have prepared yourself for that moment.”

Being a younger player it would be easy for Harlie to be focused on putting up as many points as possible, but Harlie has bigger goals.

“I have a different role this season, so I hope to do my best to achieve that role for the better of my team,” Harlie said.

Being an athlete means there are always eyes on you, on and off the court. Harlie uses those little eyes as a source of inspiration.

“I know that a lot of younger girls and athletes look up to me and that encourages me to play for a bigger purpose because there is always someone watching,” Harlie said.

Looking over her basketball career so far Harlie’s favorite memory was winning their first round at state her freshman year.

“I got to spend the whole day with my teammates by watching a movie, eating at Golden Corral, and staying late to make a student section for our boys team who also came home with a win,” Harlie said.

Harlie has a great support system at home. Mom and Dad both played basketball growing up as well as older siblings who went on to play college athletics. Harlie happens to be a triplet so she comes with a built in support system with her brothers who she also helps to support in their sports.
