Layla Stout is in her freshman year at Sayre High School. She is a multi sport athlete for the Eagles and while she enjoys her sports, she also knows what it takes to be successful.
“It has taken a lot of dedication and love for the sport for me to get where I am today,” Stout said. “Going up to the game late at night, going to work on hurdles, and working really hard in practice.”
Stout is a member of the Sayre track, basketball, fastpitch softball, slowpitch softball, cheer, and cross country teams. Throughout her life, she has had a number of people that have been impactful and made a difference in her life.
“My sister is one of the biggest influences in my life,” she stated. “I look up to her because of her energy. She lifts her teammates up and always hustles. She is also a great runner. Also, my mom has always pushed me. She was my math teacher for three years and she never let me give up.”
Patton Pugh is the track coach at Sayre. He knows that Layla is a great kid and will have a positive influence on the team.
“Layla will be a freshman this year, and she is the type of kid every coach wants on their team,” Pugh said. “She is supportive to everyone, and she also spends time working with the younger age kids, and helping with whatever they might need help with. She’s a kid I can count on everyday, never questioning what we as coaches tell her. I’m excited to see how she does in her high school career.”
Her teammates also play a big role in Stout’s success. She says that each of them brings something special to the team and she appreciates each one of them.
“There are a couple of teammates that I really enjoy working with in practice,” she said. “One is Emily Easter because we are the same height and since she is graduating this year, I need to step up and play like her. So I like working with her so I can fill her shoes. Another is Lila Whitney because she stepped up and did what we needed her too. She works so hard on and off the court but she never got the recognition she deserved.”
