Mountain View Gotebo sophomore athlete Rowyn Fite spoke to VYPE recently about her experience on the basketball team where she plays both point and shooting guard. Saying “I’ve loved sports ever since I was very young. I love competing and winning. My family loves

sports and we love to play and win on the biggest stages. I also have younger siblings that play sports and I know that they look up to me and want to play just like me”.

“My biggest role models are my parents, they always push me to do my best even if it’s not sports related.In fact, my dad is my coach on and off the court and field, and is the main reason I work hard and love the game the way I do. Caitlin Clark is another one of my role models, she is just such a phenomenal basketball player, and I really like the way she plays the game” Said Fite.

She told VYPE “Outside of practice I’ve been weightlifting doing treadmill work and getting in the gym more often”. Going on to say that “To be successful as a player It has taken a lot of time, effort, and passion for the game”. When the work pays off it makes everything feel entirely worth it. Fite experienced this during “The highlight of my career was last basketball season as a freshman, I had 29 points against Fort Cobb in the area tournament. We were just one game short of making the state tournament”.

Away from the gym Fite is “the secretary of our student council and I also have started refereeing our elementary basketball games this year.” Saying that “It’s an honor to represent Mountain View Gotebo. I enjoy the big crowds we get every basketball game. We have an amazing community and I love getting to play in front of our town. I know that little girls are in the stands watching every move we make, wishing they could be playing high school sports so I try to set a great example for the younger kids”.
