Geary High School sophomore Ally Cox is in her first year of FFA. The three-sport athlete said being in FFA has been a learning experience and she is excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for her and her classmates.
“I enjoy learning about how agriculture affects the world,” said Cox. “My friend Makenna encouraged me to join.”
Since becoming a member of the FFA chapter at Geary HS, Cox has participated in leadership activities and public speaking. Despite not showing livestock or judging animals, Cox said there are many things you can do in FFA and skills you can learn to help you in the future.
“FFA is rewarding and the culture around it is healthy and fun,” said Cox. “I hope to start showing cattle soon.”
Coming from a family with roots in agriculture, Cox is looking forward to gaining more knowledge and following in her grandfather’s footsteps.
“My grandpa is a third-generation farmer, and he has taught me so much about cattle and farming,” said Cox.
As a student-athlete Cox is focused on helping her team compete and win.
“I love being pushed to do my best and my team is like a family. We may bump heads sometimes, but we all need each other. I’m involved with basketball, track and field as well as softball,” said Cox.
Also, a member of the student council and BETA club, Cox said she has big plans for her future.
“After high school I want to go to Oklahoma State University and pursue my education with agriculture,” said Cox.
