Elk City’s Jack Morgan – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Amy Robbins at Moxy Reality

Elk City sophomore Jack Morgan might be young, but he said he’s already focusing on leaving a legacy of hard work and a positive attitude for the Elks in cross country, basketball, and baseball.
“I think character is by far the most important part of running because it does you no good to be the best running but not be able to lift up your teammates when they are succeeding,” Morgan said. “Off the field, you have to be humble and understand that it takes a team to win. And after a race, just a small thing you can do is go to your teammates and opponents and congratulate them or tell them good race, or good game. I also try to be trustworthy, because it’s important for your teammates to know that you have their back.”
Morgan said the cross country season is going well so far, and he’s looking forward to his winter and spring sports also.

We’ve placed top three in almost every race, and just got eighth at pre-state,” he said. “I think our team has a really good shot at competing at state this year.”
Even though Morgan started running cross country only a couple of years ago, he said he fell in love quickly because it is both an individual and team sport.
“It pushes me to my limit,” he said. “And it’s exciting to see the results you get in a race after a week of hard work. I have a great team and I’m excited to see what we accomplish this season.
“Another reason I love to run is because it is all about perseverance, and it also tests your mental strength,” he continued. “I can also help push my teammates to their limits and they do the same with me.”
In his free time, Morgan said he enjoys playing the drums at his church, and playing in his high school band drum line. He said he’d like to give a shoutout to all his coaches and his parents for teaching him to be humble and have good character.
