Elk City’s Holden Dixon – Football Spotlight – Presented by Great Plains Bank

by Trina Walker

Holden Dixon of Elk City High School is putting all his athletic focus into football his senior year.

“My football coaches over the years have taught me countless life lessons, but my favorite one is, if you put God first you can do anything,” said Holden.

Holden says positive energy is incredibly contagious. Mason Price, a former teammate who graduated in 2022 had this positive energy that inspires Holden to this day.

“When Mason was on the field or practicing, he was a very hard worker. He is one of those guys that will always work as hard as he can to meet your needs.”

“My favorite part about being on a team is when we become unstoppable when pulling on the same rope,” he said.

This determination helped the team go to the semi-finals last year.

“Everyone doubted us and thought that we were very incapable, but like coach Maynard says, ‘Stats don’t mean nothing. When being an elk, you will always be doubted,’” he said.

Holden’s favorite part about being an athlete at Elk City High School is having a community that shows amazing support, teachers that care about students and students that come together. Holden wishes every high school athlete could experience this type of community nation wide.

“We are very lucky. It makes representing my school very important to me,” he says.

Holden’s inspiration is his mother Selena Dixon. He says she is a very diligent and compassionate person. “If she wants it, she will work as hard as she has to, to get it.”

As a final note Holden wants to thank his parents. “Mom and Dad, thank you for everything you have done for me over these last 18 years. You have taught me so many valuable things and I appreciate all that you’ve done.”
