Elk City’s Holden Dixon – Athlete Spotlight –Presented by Paul Jones Drug

From week zero to week 11, you have to keep the same “drive and determination,” Elk City starting center Holden Dixon says.

The senior snapper enters his third year as Elk City’s starter this August. The first two seasons both ended with a loss in the state semifinals.

“You have to have the mindset that you will be playing in December,” Dixon says, “and then, before you know it, you will be there.”

And that’s exactly what Dixon believes – that Gold Ball will return to Elk City for the first time since 1998 this year.

“I believe this year, we will finally go all the way because this group wants it more than any other bunch I have played with,” Dixon says, “and I have started on two really dang good teams. It’s only May and I can feel something special coming.”

“I love center because it all starts with me.”

Dixon will assume a greater leadership role this year.

“I have big shoes to fill after last year’s seniors,” Dixon says, “and don’t think leadership will be a big problem this season. We just have to come together and play as one.”

Regardless of this year’s outcome, Dixon hopes he’ll leave an impression on his teammates.

“I hope they remember that no matter what happens in life, these guys are my brothers and can always call or text me whenever,” Dixon says. “Crazy to think the same bunch that I grew up with are all about to graduate high school and go live completely different lives.”

Dixon does not plan on pursuing a playing career after high school.

“After I graduate in May, I am planning on either attending OSU or SWOSU and majoring in business finance.”
