Elk City High School senior Devin Simmons is a member of the Elks football and track teams.
Simmons, one of the faster athletes on the team, is a member of the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 relay teams as well as an individual runner in the 100, 200, and 400 events.
Simmons said he enjoys being part of a team that has the same goals in mind.
“We all have a common goal of achieving success. We also have a lot of fun together, both on and off the field,” said Simmons.
As a student-athlete one of his favorite memories in competition came on the track.
“One of my favorite memories is running sub 11 [seconds in the 100m dash] for the first time in my season-opener at my hometown, Moore,” said Simmons.
The sprinter credits his parents for being a big influence in his life.
“They’ve always supported me and encouraged me to pursue my passions. They’ve also taught me the importance of hard work, integrity, and perseverance,” Simmons said.
In the classroom, Simmons said he enjoys history, but his biology teacher is a personal favorite.
“My Biology I and II teacher, Mrs. Barta, takes the time to get to know her students on a personal level, and she’s always there to listen and provide support when we need it,” Simmons said.
Academics are important to Simmons as he looks toward his future as a college student.
“I believe that education is the key to unlocking opportunities and achieving my goals. I plan to attend college and pursue my athletic and academic career,” said Simmons.
In his free time, Simmons can be found lifting weights and spending time with friends and family. An avid outdoorsman, Simmons enjoys doing outdoor activities, swimming, and playing pickleball.
