Elk City’s Aubrie Pogue among top area pitchers – Presented by RibCrib

Elk City’s Aubrie Pogue is “one of the best pitchers and competitors around,” Elkettes head coach Kaleb Murray said.

Pogue won 25 games on the bump last year with a sub-2.00 ERA. Then a freshman, Pogue also hit .451 and batted in 30 runs.

“She is only a sophomore that is constantly getting better, stronger and more athletic every day,” Murray said.

Pogue, who also participates in student council and FCA and plays basketball, is among the team’s young leaders. The key to managing her busy schedule: “Stay up late and wake up early.”

“Having an inspiring and motivating team environment puts us in a better situation to reach our team goals,” Pogue said. “Self-discipline is so important for a student-athlete because it helps them maintain a structured lifestyle. As a student-athlete, I have to balance my academic responsibilities with my athletic commitments.”

Her ability to lead on the diamond and court has spread into other areas of her life.

“I’ve been in athletics a lot longer than STUCO, so I would almost say athletics has helped me be a leader for STUCO by understanding it takes a team backing you up,” Pogue said.

Her involvement with FCA and greater faith are paramount in her life.

“My faith is important to me for many reasons,” Pogue said. “It frames who we are and enables you to overcome every obstacle in your path towards success. Connecting with others who share the same faith through sports strengthens us during trials.”

After Elk City’s softball team won 26 games last year, Pogue is eyeing another big jump for the Elkettes this year.

“This year, I hope we can improve as a team and hope to make it to the state tournament,” Pogue said.

After her high school career, Pogue hopes to play college softball.
