Elk City’s Abby Robbins – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Paul Jones Drug

By Derrick Smith

Success is something that everyone wants to achieve, but some are not willing to put in the work. Whether you are an adult with a full-time job or a high school student athlete, success does not just happen, it has to be worked for. Abby Robbins says that as an athlete, there are a few different things that go into her being her best.
“To be successful in anything, you have to have a good work ethic,” she stated. “You also need to have the ability to not give up or get down on yourself when things get hard or go wrong.”

Robbins is a junior at Elk City High School. She plays softball and basketball for Elks. On the softball field, she is behind the plate playing catcher, while on the hardwood, she can play any position. She is no stranger to either sport as she began playing them both when she was five years old.
Throughout her life, Abby has had a few different people that have made an impact on her life. But over the years, she says that there have been two people that have had the biggest influence on her.
“My dad and Mattie Jones are my biggest role models,” she said. “My dad has always supported me through all my choices and helps me with anything I need. Mattie has this ‘non-stop hard work’ and ‘nothing can stop you but you’ attitude that she has taught me over the two years we have played together.”
Robbins has made many great memories with her teammates on and off the field over the years. She says that the growth of herself and her team as a whole is something that she is really proud of.
“The highlight so far this year is beating all these teams who have beat us for years,” she said. “It has been fun humbling them a little and seeing our team grow closer together as friends and family.”
She has also earned some awards recently and has her eye on a bigger honor.
“I have been named District Catcher of the Year for two years in a row,” she stated. “I am proud of those awards but I am working towards the ultimate goal of being an All-State softball player.”
