Elk City’s Abby Brown impacting team as sophomore – Presented by Moxy Realty

Elk City sophomore Abby Brown impressed coaches last season as a freshman playing for the Elkettes varsity basketball team.

This year, Brown is excited and looking forward to having another fantastic season competing night in and out. Brown first started playing basketball when she was in the first grade and appreciates that basketball provides a new challenge every day.

“My favorite thing about the game is competing with other players and always having room to grow and get better,” Brown said.

As a freshman playing serious minutes at the high school level, Brown faced quite the challenge last season but stepped up and made the most of the opportunity.

“I was very fortunate to get lots of playing time at the varsity level as a freshman,” Brown said. “My expectations are very high this year now that I have recognized and understood the competition at varsity level.”

When Brown needs motivation or encouragement she turns to her coaches for their advice and leadership.

“I consider my high school basketball coach, Sean Hamm, a role model,” Brown said. “No matter how many challenges he faces in life he always gives 100% to us players.”

In addition to coach Hamm’s support, Brown also follows a motto: Don’t get through the challenge; get in front of it.

“This quote inspires me to keep my head up and give 110% at all times no matter how hard I think the matter is,” Brown said.

Brown and her team are ready to get the season underway and show the rest of the state what Elk City has to offer. The team has been working hard all offseason and is ready to see the results of their hard work pay off.

Although Brown is only a sophomore she has already started planning for life after high school. Brown hopes she will get the opportunity to continue her playing career at the next level in college, but is also focused on her academics and would eventually like to become a mortician.
