Elk City’s Hailey Buie is a senior outfielder for the Lady Elks fast-pitch softball team. Buie is a multi-sport athlete and loves to compete. She knows that to be an outstanding student-athlete a good work ethic is necessary, but it’s also important to have self-confidence.

For Buie, some of her favorite moments have involved the support shown from the Elk City fans during games.

“My favorite memory is when we had a home game against our rivals,” Buie said. “We had the best student section ever. We played really well and won the game while the student section was being super loud and supportive!”

Buie is excited to see the Elk City faithful showing their support again this season. In the fall Buie hopes for Elk City to make a run into the fast-pitch state tournament.

“We have been close the last few years,” Buie said. “But it’s time we make it happen.”

While Buie loves competing on the field and basketball court, she really appreciates the lasting memories and friendships she has made with her teammates.

“I look up to one of my former teammates, Danni Scottile,” Buie said. “Danni was an amazing leader for both our softball and basketball teams. I admire her for her positive mindset and heart of gold. Danni is one of a kind. She is athletic, smart, and caring. She truly loves everyone she encounters.”

Outside of softball, Buie is also involved in STUCO, NHS, Interact, FFA, and playing the piano. However, her talent really shines on the basketball court. When asked what her future looks like after high school, Buie had this to say:

“I am planning on going to play basketball and pursue a degree in kinesiology in hopes of becoming an occupational therapist.”

Coaches at Elk City agree and say that Buie is going to go on and play college basketball and be very successful in whatever she decides to pursue.
