Elk City mom of the month – Leah Redd – Presented by Oak Creek Floral

Leah Redd and her husband, Ronnie, were among the first of three families that founded the Elk City Football Club over 12 years ago.

“The football boosters quickly grew into a network of hard-working, dedicated families and local businesses,” Redd said.

Over a decade later, Redd’s service to the Elk City football team hasn’t slowed. Her son, Blake Redd, played defensive end and tight end for the Elks.

“I personally have helped with spirit trailer and T-shirt sales. Ronnie has helped with tailgating setup along with setting up the Big Elk Tunnel for several years. We also have been involved with Elk City baseball, basketball and recently golf booster clubs.”

“She [Redd] does a great job of helping with the booster club, organizing meals and snacks for our athletes before and after games,” Elk City head football coach Zac Maynard said. “Always willing to give am helping hand, including picture day. Very thankful for her service.”

Redd is thankful for the relationships she and her family have made through supporting Elk City athletics.

“Chase, our oldest son, had some of the same coaches that Ronnie had in high school. Quint Nichols and Danny McClure played a huge part in Ronnie and Chase’s life. And Coach Maynard and Johnny Easttom are excellent mentors for Blake,” Redd said. “Having coaches that believe in work ethic, honesty and integrity will take you further than the win on the scoreboard is the key to a successful team.”

Redd hopes her involvement in her childrens’ athletics will inspire them to “show up and do work.”

“Supporting Elk City’s student-athletes over the years has been a privilege. We support athletics because of the life lessons and friendships gained over the years. My favorite part of being a team parent is getting to know all of the athletes,” Redd said. “Supporting the team does not mean donations; it can be showing up for a game, conversations about their day or a simple fist bump can boost an athlete’s morale.”
