Elk City Football Spotlight – Austin Jones – Presented by Great Plains Bank

Austin Jones began playing football in the third grade and was initially inspired to start playing because he enjoyed watching OU Sooner football games. Now Jones plays quarterback for the Elk City Elks who are off to a good start as district play ramps up heading into mid October. The Elks are currently 6-1 and undefeated in District 1 competition. As a veteran on the team Jones is looking for he and his teammates to compete week to week at a high level.

“I think we’ve had a solid start to our season,” Jones said. “But we have some things to clean up. When we put everything together I think we can beat any team we play.”

Jones is hoping to end his senior year on a high note. He’s been working hard to finish out the year strong. Last season Elk City made it to the semifinal round of the Class 4A playoffs, but have their sights set on bigger goals this season and are playing with a lot of confidence. Jones and the Elks believe this is the year that they can make a deep run in the playoffs and have a season to remember.

Jones appreciates how the team has come together and everyone has bought into the system and each player has each other’s back. The Elks have been playing with a team-first mentality and they’re reaping the rewards of their efforts.

While Jones has lots of support within the football program he also has support in the community through friends, family, coaches, and teachers. Jones is grateful for the opportunities they have provided for him. He is especially thankful for his parents.

“I’m very inspired by my dad,” Jones said. “He has sacrificed a lot to allow me to be where I am today.”

After high school Jones plans on attending college to further his education. He wants to study either business or mechanical engineering.
