Head coach – Zac Maynard
2021: 10-3
The Elks’ defense had a strong season last year, allowing their opponents an average of fourteen points per game. For another solid season and a run at a championship, they will have to work as hard as they did last year and keep the average about the same. Cooper Patton (5-10, 170, Sr.) will be a key player at safety. He totaled eighty-eight tackles last year along with four interceptions. He is a three-year starter for Elk City and is a leader on the team that does a great job at leading the underclassmen. He also excels in the classroom and community. Last season was a big year for defensive tackle Trace Decker (6-4, 290, Sr.). He had seven sacks and fifteen tackles for loss. Coach Maynard says that Decker has a bright future. “He really came on strong last year and did some good things for us. I am excited about his future and what he will be like this year after having a great offseason. Several colleges have shown interest in him.” Joining Trace on the front line will be Gage Easttham (6-3, 240, Sr.). He had eight sacks a year ago and twenty-two tackles for loss and he should continue that production and cause problems for opponents. Sammy Castro (5-11, 185, Sr.), who has worked hard this offseason to strengthen his game, will be back at linebacker, Assistant coaches this season will be Johhny Easttham, Jon Greene Shayne Thornton, Shylar Thornton, Dalton Cooper, Michael Fisher.
