Elk City Character Counts – Jayden Manning – Presented By RibCrib

By Ember McElrath

Elk City High School Sophomore, Jayden Manning, might have only started playing golf last year, but she can not imagine her life without her team.

“It means so much to me to be a part of such an amazing team,” said Jayden. “We all build each other up and know how to make each other laugh, and for me I think it is important to be a part of a team that knows how to have fun.”

Jayden’s favorite part of being on the golf team is getting to know people she might not normally get the chance to meet and of course growing those new friendships she makes.

When it comes to making memories on the golf course she and her friends have no problem with that.

“My favorite golf memory is when me and Brett have little dance parties when we are waiting even though neither of us can dance,” Jayden said.

This year Jayden is focused on her mental game.

“I feel like my biggest accomplishment is not being so hard on myself when I do not do as good as I wanted too,” Jayden said.

Golf has taught Jayden a lot of things including some great life lessons.

“Sometimes things are not going to go exactly as you planned and that is okay.”

When she is feeling nervous she takes time to simply breath and talk to God, then she is good to go for the next hole.

Not only is she on the golf team Jayden is also active in Key Club, FCA, and yearbook.

Jayden was born and raised in Elk City and her support system comes from her awesome family, dad Jay, mom Jennifer, and sister Kenzie.

Family support is important and so is confidence from your coaches.

“Jayden is a very hard worker and has come a long way since last year. She has spent the summer, fall, and is currently working extensively to improve her game. As a Freshman, she was the 6th bag. However, I fully expect her to crack the lineup this spring and make a good showing,” said her coach.

When Jayden is not busy on the golf course or snapping pictures for the yearbook you will find her at the church or spending quality time with her friends and family.
