Elk City Basketball Spotlight – Kye Keyes – Presented by Paul Jones Drug Pharmacy

Elk City senior Kye Keyes has been playing basketball for as long as he can remember. Going into his final year of high school competition Keyes is looking to make the most of his last season with the Elks. Keyes began taking basketball seriously at a young age and appreciates all the opportunities that the game has provided for him. Although Keyes loves to compete he also enjoys the friendships and bonds he’s been able to build over the years.

“I started playing AAU around the second grade,” Keyes said. “My favorite part of the game is the fact that it’s a team sport and it allows me to build strong friendships and compete as a team.”

This past season in AAU competition Keyes and his 3T team had an outstanding year.

“The most memorable moment of my basketball career is when my AAU team made it to the semifinals at Nationals in 2022,” Keyes said.

Now that the winter basketball season tips off, Keyes is turning his attention to helping Elk City make a trip into their own post season play. Keyes wants to enjoy every moment with his teammates, friends, and coaches.

“I’m just looking forward to the whole season of my senior year,” Keyes said. “I want to make it the most memorable one yet.”

Outside of basketball Keyes also stays active in many other sports. He has run cross country, played football and baseball. In the classroom he is a dedicated student as well and participates in numerous clubs including Future Farmers of America and serves as the National Honor Society president for his class.

After high school Keyes hopes for the opportunity to continue his basketball career at the next level and wants to work toward a degree in architecture.
