Clinton’s Marcus Wilson – Wrestling Spotlight – Presented by Blakeburn Clinic

Athletes have a lot of experiences and memorable moments throughout their career, no matter what level they compete at. These moments can be personal achievements, team accomplishments, or something else. But they are moments that will stay with the athlete for a long time.

Marcus Wilson is a junior at Clinton High School and he says that out of all of his career, there is one memory that stands out as his favorite.

“The highlight moment of my career was when we were wrestling against Weatherford during my sophomore year,” Wilson recalled. “I pinned my opponent and that gave us a chance to go to dual state. It was a great feeling.”

Marcus is a member of the Clinton wrestling and football teams. Outside of sports, he is also involved in the National Honor Society.

As a multisport athlete, Wilson knows what it takes in order to be successful and stay focused.
“There has been a lot of hard work and determination for me to get where I am today,” he stated. “One thing that really motivates me is the fear of losing. I hate to lose and that keeps me working hard in order to always improve.”

When he steps out on the mat or the field, Wilson knows that he is playing for more than just himself.

“It means a lot to me to be able to represent my school and community when I play,” he said. “For me, it does not matter who is on the schedule, but I love to get a win against anyone from Weatherford or Elk City. I like showing them that they are not on the same level as us.”

Throughout his life, Marcus has had a number of people that have had an influence on his life.

“One of my biggest role models is Tom Brady,” he said. “I look up to him because he is very successful and also really competitive. A teacher that has impacted me has been Mr. Miller because he pushes me to work the hardest.”
