Kat Meacham, a senior at Clinton High School, is not your ordinary student-athlete. She’s a powerhouse, excelling in not one, but three sports: track and field, softball, and golf.
Meacham’s junior year was marked with her accomplishments, shining especially during state week. “I competed in both the state tournament for golf and track and field,” Meacham said. “We finished 4th as a team, and I finished 12thindividually. I then headed to Ardmore to compete in the state track meet and won first place in both discus and shot put.”
Meacham’s path to success has not been without challenges. She recalls her sophomore year when she didn’t perform as well as she had hoped. “This taught me to always work hard for what you want,” Meacham said. “After I was disappointed with my finish in track, I worked six days a week all year long until track came around and I was competing at a higher level.”
One of Meacham’s favorite teachers, Coach Higbee, has played a pivotal role in her academic and athletic journey. “He teaches weightlifting and math, which are both my favorites,” Meacham said. “In math, I enjoyed how easy it was to understand the way he taught.”
It is not all about personal achievements for Meacham, she takes pride in a strong throwing culture in Clinton. “The younger middle school throwers inspire me for the future of Clinton throwers,” Meacham said. “The number of young kids that are trying out throwing is astounding, and I am excited to see what they accomplish.”
As Meacham reflected, she shared the best advice she has received. “Onward and upward,” Meacham said. “Don’t let the setbacks define you.” Her remarkable journey, marked by achievements like being a three-time state champion and earning honors such as Nike All-American and USATF All-American, serves as a testament to her resilience and determination.
She would like to thank God for the ability and opportunities she has received, her family for always being there to support her, and the coaches she has had throughout the years.
