Jocelyn King is all about increasing the school spirit and improving the attitudes of those around her and you can see how important it truly is to her. This 10th grader at Clinton High School has an entrepreneurial spirit, as well, and she has started up a pom squad at the school. “I am currently choreographing routines for our new team,” she added excitedly. Her favorite styles of dance are hip hop and jazz, and Jocelyn says dance taught her self-preservation during more difficult times and how to face adversity while remaining mentally tough. It also taught her how to build and grow relationships. “My coaches and teammates drive me to perform at my best and always give 100%,” she said, and added that on top of pom she also finds the time to dedicate to golf and doing competitive dance at Studio 5-6-7-8 in Yukon.
As a student Jocelyn loves that she has been able to expand upon the already rich CHS tradition “by implementing our new pom program, encouraging students to experience pom and spirit from a different program.” She knows that if you want to achieve great things, you must work hard for it because nothing is handed out and that influence on her work ethic is apparent. An incredibly dedicated student athlete, Jocelyn is in her thirteenth year of dance, and she has been doing it competitively for the last five years. She is also a member of the Custer Avenue Church of Christ Youth Group, president of her class, secretary of student council and a member of both the Key Club and National Honor Society.
“I would like to thank Tyler Bridges, Michelle Sorter, Jeff King, and Ashleigh Gordon for their support in getting our pom program started. Also, a special thanks to my dance studio owner, Tracie Poage for pushing me every day to become a better dancer. My dream is to make Pom All-State and become a member of the OU pom squad,” Jocelyn stated in closing. Follow Jocelyn King and her career as she will be making sure to follow through on her dreams.
